Positioning Austria in the global economy

23 October 2013

The FIW published a new wiiw study on value added trade, international production sharing and global linkages.

The study was conducted by Robert Stehrer and Roman Stöllinger.

Between 1995 and 2009 the number of jobs in Austria linked to export increased by more than 50 percent to 1,17 Million. The reasons for this development are economic growth in general, but in particular the internationalisation of the Austrian economy. Austria’s export market shares in terms of value added trade, which is one of the main drivers for domestic employment, increases on average by 6 percent per year. Additionally, nearly half of Austrian’s exported value added is due to services. These are the results of the study on Austrian value added trade and Austria’s position in global production networks. The study was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economics, Family and Youth (BMWFJ)
