The presentation will analyse the dynamics of Ukraine’s economy from the production and demand sides and identify the factors of deindustrialisation. It will assess the likely impact of labour remittances on the domestic labour market and probable structural impacts. Further emphasis will be on the external sector’s imbalances and foreign trade patterns with the EU. We shall discuss fiscal sustainability issues and the problem of debt service peaks and assess the role of tight monetary policy as an impediment to economic growth and credit market crashes since 2014. Proposals for urgent public policy actions will be put forward to support long-term economic growth in the Ukraine: a look from inside.
Tetiana Bogdan is Senior Researcher at the Academy of Financial Management of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Chief of Department for Public Finance at the Expert-Analytical Centre ‘Optima’ (Kyiv). She was Chief of Section for International Financial Research at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences and worked for several international research and technical assistance projects supported by the German Federal Government, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the EU’s FP7 and Tacis Programmes, the Open Society Foundation and the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies. Tetiana also worked as a direct advisor to the Minister of Finance of Ukraine in 2011 and prepared an economic programme for a top-ranking presidential candidate in 2018. She published over 160 scientific articles in the Athens Journal of Business & Economics, Transformations in Business and Economics and Ukrainian academic journals. Tetiana is the author of two individual monographs and chief editor of one collective monograph devoted to international finance and national public finance issues. Her Google Scholar citations profile has an h‑index of 20 and an i10-index of 41. Last year Tetiana Bogdan occupied 16th position in the Ukrainian-wide ranking of most cited academic researchers in economics.
