Birgit Niessner is Senior Research Associate at wiiw and expert for CESEE countries. Her background is central banking and risk management. In her research, she started off with development economics and foreign trade. She then focused on issues of convergence in CESEE. She is present in academic associations such as the Schumpeter Verein. She graduated in economics (PhD), development studies (MSc) and social anthropology (Magister).
