Industrial Policies in conflict and post-conflict countries

Abstract

This project supports UNIDO in identifying how industrial policy can contribute to industrial recovery in conflict and post-conflict countries. Post-conflict contexts face unique challenges — from damaged infrastructure and weakened institutions to reduced human capital and limited investment. To effectively assist conflict and post-conflict countries in rebuilding their industrial base, UNIDO seeks to strengthen its internal capacity to provide policy advisory and technical support services. Our study explores the mechanisms through which industrial policy can foster industrial recovery and examines how technology transfer can accelerate reconstruction and long-term industrial development. By combining a review of international experience with an analysis of post-conflict realities, the project provides: i) a framework for industrial policy interventions in conflict and post-conflict countries and ii) strategic recommendations on where and how UNIDO can most effectively engage.
