Stella Zilian is Economist at wiiw. Her main research interests lie in the quantitative analysis of different dimensions of social inequality in times of digitalisation with a particular focus on employment polarisation, digital skills and gender wage inequalities. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Graz and a PhD from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Her work experience includes research positions at the University of Graz (Graz Schumpeter Centre and as Elisabeth-List-Fellow for Gender Research) and the Vienna University of Business and Economics (Institute of Heterodox Economics, Institute for Macroeconomics and the Research Institute Economics of Inequality). She was involved in different projects funded by the Austrian Science Fund ('How do smart machines transform the Austrian Economy'), the Austrian National Bank ('Digital competence mismatch in Austria', 'The Social and Economic Advantages of Migration in Europe') and the Digitalisierungsfonds Arbeit 4.0 of the Chamber of Labour ('Digitalisation and the Gender Pay Gap in Austria'), among others. In her research, she has worked with different microdata, in particular survey data (e.g., PIAAC), administrative data (e.g., from public employment services), and firm-level data (e.g., Orbis).
