Wiiw wins 26 Focus Economics Analyst Forecast Awards for Eastern Europe

Twelve of our economists were honored by Focus Economics for their success in forecasting trends in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe such as GDP, inflation, interest rate and more

In the Focus Economics Analyst Forecast Awards for 2022, wiiw economists received 26 awards that spanned over 14 countries in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) and seven categories – overall forecast, GDP, inflation, current account, fiscal balance, interest rate and exchange rate. A total of twelve wiiw economists were awarded.

The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) was one of the most successful forecasters that was awarded by Focus Economics, and 2022 marked one of our most successful years. Here are some highlights:

  • Best current account forecaster for Bulgaria and Ukraine
  • Best fiscal balance forecaster for Albania and Slovenia
  • Best interest rate forecaster for Belarus
  • Best overall forecaster for Albania and Belarus
  • Third best overall forecaster for North Macedonia
  • Best GDP forecaster for Czechia and North Macedonia
  • Special congratulations to Rumen Dobrinksy, who won seven awards, three of them being first place

To identify the top economic forecasters, Focus Economics assessed the accuracy of the forecasts submitted by over 350 institutions to its Consensus Forecast survey over the course of 22 months. Among the winning institutions are the world’s most renowned global forecasting firms and international banks – including the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw).
