Labour market integration of Ukrainian refugees in Austria (FIMAS Ukraine)

Client/Funding Institution

International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)

Abstract

This project analysed the integration trajectories of Ukrainian refugees in Austria, with a particular focus on labour market participation. The project examined how employment outcomes interact with other key integration domains such as education, social integration and access to welfare and public services. The project built on the established FIMAS survey infrastructure and extended it to Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Austria following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. By combining newly collected survey data with information from earlier FIMAS waves, the project enabled a longitudinal analysis of integration processes over time. Within the project, the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) contributed to data preparation and analysis, including the cleaning of survey modules and the construction of a panel dataset linking several FIMAS waves. The project also included the preparation of a research report and the presentation of findings to policymakers and stakeholders.
