Client/Funding Institution

International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)

Abstract

FIMAS Pathways is a longitudinal research project led by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in partnership with the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw). The project continues the FIMAS panel survey series, which has been tracking the integration trajectories of refugees in Austria since 2016. The project surveys approximately 2,700 refugees and persons under subsidiary protection from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Ukraine, on key dimensions of their integration into Austrian society. These include labour market entry and occupational mobility, educational pathways and recognition of qualifications, social integration and networks, housing, and geographic mobility within Austria. Data collection draws on both existing panel participants and a stratified random sample accessed via the AMS client database. wiiw contributes scientific expertise to the project through data cleaning, panel data construction, and econometric analysis. The research findings are consolidated into a comprehensive research report and disseminated through a stakeholder workshop and policy-relevant events. The study provides an evidence base for the ongoing development and adaptation of integration policy in Austria.
