wiiw NTM Data

July 2017

Despite the growing importance of non-tariff measures in international trade, data on non-tariff measures (NTM) usable for econometric analysis is still scarce. A promising data source allowing also for a panel structure of NTM data is the Integrated Trade Intelligence Porte (I-TIP) of the WTO.

Our dataset is a compilation of NTM notifications to the WTO (accessible via I-TIP-Goods) for more than 100 importers and over 5,000 products since 1979, complemented by HS 6-digit product codes with a five-step imputation procedure and subsequently transformed to a bilateral panel dataset, allowing for econometric analysis.

This work was produced as part of the PRONTO (Productivity, Non-Tariff Measures and Openness). The project has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no 13504.

The data can also be downloaded from the PRONTO project website via the following link.
