The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw), the University of Vienna, and the College of Europe Alumni Group Austria, invite you to a lecture by

Professor Loukas Tsoukalis on the topic of "Europe's Coming of Age".

Followed by a discussion and Q&A with:

  • Ewald Nowotny, former Governor Austrian National Bank, Austrian Society for European Policy
  • Michael Landesmann, Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw)
  • Lena Hornkohl, University of Vienna

The event will take place on 25 April 2023 at 17.30h (admission from 17.00) at the University of Vienna, Juridicum, Dachgeschoss, Schottenbastei 10-16, 1010 Vienna.

Afterwards, we invite you to an informal reception for further exchange.

The event will be held in English.

Loukas Tsoukalis, Emeritus Professor University of Athens, Professor Sciences Po Paris, and President Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy, is one of the world's leading experts on Europe He has just published a new book (‘Europe’s Coming of Age’) and will give a wide-ranging assessment of contemporary European affairs - how the EU became what it is today and what key challenges Europeans now face. These challenges include the search for a common foreign and security policy, which also requires a more symmetrical transatlantic relationship, the search for democracy beyond the nation state, more inclusive societies, the development of the eurozone policy framework, a greater degree of autonomy in high technology and the greening of the economy.
