Futures of Global Capitalism: China, the US, and the Lessons of the In-Between – From Sino-Yugoslav Relations to a Post-Globalization World
20 May 2025 4:00 pm CEST
What can the rise of China, the decline of the US, and the legacy of Yugoslavia teach us about the future?
Venue
wiiw, Rahlgasse 3, 1060 Vienna, seminar room (entrance from the ground floor)
RegistrationWe kindly ask you to register for the event.
Description
This event will explore the shifting global order shaped by the rise of China, the relative decline of the United States, and the changing nature of globalisation as the dominant paradigm that has driven the world over the past decades. We will also reflect on the differences between Chinese and US systems, as well as their prospects for the future.
The discussion will be enriched by a presentation of the new book Yugoslavia and China: Histories, Legacies, Afterlives by Anastas Vangeli and Dragan Pavlićević, which revisits the complex history of Sino-Yugoslav relations.
In doing so, we will seek to draw lessons from the experience of countries 'in between' – neither fully aligned with East nor West – for navigating today’s geopolitical and economic uncertainties.
