Description
A hotter summer: inflation complicates the CESEE outlook
Deputy Director Richard Grieveson will present wiiw's new economic forecasts for CESEE in 2026-28.
The latest wiiw Q3 Economic Forecast examines how the recent energy-price shock and renewed inflation pressures are reshaping the outlook for Central, East and Southeast Europe. Although higher energy prices have forced central banks to slow monetary easing and pushed inflation forecasts sharply higher, economic growth across much of the region has proved resilient.
Beyond the short-term outlook, the webinar will explore the longer-term forces transforming CESEE, including defence spending, AI-driven productivity, China Shock 2.0, fiscal pressures, EU enlargement and Ukraine's reconstruction. What do these developments mean for businesses, investors and policymakers operating across the region?
Topics include:
- How the Middle East energy shock has changed the inflation and interest-rate outlook across CESEE
- Which economies are outperforming, and which are facing the biggest challenges
- Country forecast revisions and the implications for business strategy
- Why productivity, rather than low labour costs, is becoming the region's new competitive advantage
- The outlook for investment, fiscal policy and foreign direct investment
- The opportunities arising from defence spending, EU enlargement and Ukraine's reconstruction
- What the changing CESEE growth model means for B2C, B2B and B2G firms
