Description
CESEE in 2027: Resilient growth in a more dangerous world
Deputy Director Richard Grieveson will present wiiw's new economic forecasts for CESEE in 2026-28.
The latest wiiw Q4 Economic Forecast examines how a more dangerous and more inflationary global environment is shaping the outlook for Central, East and Southeast Europe. The prolonged conflict in the Middle East and the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, higher US tariffs and rising borrowing costs have all added to the uncertainty. Yet CESEE continues to show resilience: most economies are still growing at a healthy pace and the region is comfortably outperforming the euro area.
Beyond the short-term outlook, the webinar will explore how geopolitics is reshaping the region’s growth model, including defence spending, the EU’s tougher stance towards China, fiscal pressures, German industrial demand and a series of pivotal elections in Europe in 2027. What do these developments mean for businesses, investors and policymakers operating across the region?
Topics include:
- Poland is booming, Romania is struggling: why is CESEE diverging?
- Germany is recovering but will CESEE benefit this time?
- The era of cheap labour is ending: can productivity catch up?
- Defence, energy and automation: where will the next investment boom happen?
- The China shock is hitting the region: which industries will survive?
