2019 was a busy year on the wiiw website, with our publications and project work receiving record numbers of visitors. Our most popular article concerned China’s Belt and Road Initiative while visitors were also interested in our forecasts for Central, East and Southeast Europe (CESEE), the fallout from the exchange of sanctions between Russia and the EU, Serbian politics and the question of whether trade balances affect economic growth. On the media side, our CESEE forecasts got the most attention, along with our work on refugee integration in Austria.
Our most downloaded publication concerned the role of multinational companies in international business integration, while there was also interest in our research on import demand elasticities, non-performing loans in CESEE, interactions between financial and macroeconomic imbalances, and wages developments in the EU-CEE. In terms of project work, visitors to our website were particularly interested in our update of the EUKLEMS database, which provided a contribution to the debate about productivity growth in the developed world since the crisis. Our work on intra-EU trade and labour markets in Southeast Europe also proved popular.
Below we list the five most popular articles, publications, projects and press releases on our website in 2019.
